Costs to know

Toronto also charges its own Municipal Land Transfer Tax on top of Ontario's. For homes with one or two single-family residences the City lists 0.5% up to $55,000, 1% up to $250,000, 1.5% up to $400,000, 2% up to $2,000,000 and 2.5% up to $3,000,000, with higher graduated rates above $3,000,000 from April 1, 2026.

First-time buyers in Toronto may qualify for a City rebate of up to $4,475, on top of the Ontario refund of up to $4,000.

Checked on October 8, 2026 against the City of Toronto pages (rates page modified April 7, 2026; rebate page updated December 18, 2025). Confirm the figures for your purchase with your lawyer.
